The world is certainly an uncertain place. Watching or reading the news gives us daily doses of that fact. Turmoil in the Middle East. The stock market rises, the stock market falls. Earthquakes, fires, floods and other natural disasters occur regularly.
What’s common to each of these events is that they’re all out of our control.
It’s not just things on a grand scale that are beyond our control. Our favorite sports teams don’t win as much as we expect them to. Our children make choices that sometimes surprise us. Even the weather is something that we have no power over.
Truly, much of life is beyond our control. It can be disheartening and even depressing if we focus our time and energy of the things out of our reach.
However, there are many things that we can control. Popular author and speaker Steve Maraboli wrote this truism in his best-selling book, Life, the Truth, and Being Free: “How would your life be different if…you stopped worrying about things you can’t control and started focusing on the things you can? Let today be the day…You free yourself from fruitless worry, seize the day and take effective action on things you can change.”
There are so many things that we do have control over that can make positive differences in our lives. Some are simple, such as smiling, working hard at your job, being kind and courteous to others, sharing, being a good listener, being honest, or learning something new.
Others take a little more time and effort, but have huge rewards. Such as eating right and exercising. Over time, you can make significant changes in your health and well-being by taking control.
You can also take control over your financial health. Even as the economy goes through its ups and down, you can take steps to protect yourself and your family. Things like starting a savings account, saving for retirement, getting life insurance and pre-planning your funeral are all things you can control that will have positive outcomes.
We encourage you to heed the advice of Steve Maraboli and focus on the things that we can control. If we can be of assistance with pre-planning your memorial services, please give us a call at 1-800-204-3131 and we can discuss the options available to you.
