Stop what you’re doing right now! Sorry to be so abrupt, but may we ask you where are you reading this right now? Are you hunched over your laptop, squinting to see the screen? Or, are you straining your neck by looking down at your phone?
You may not think about it, but the way we sit, especially during the workday, can have a huge effect on our physical and mental well-being. There’s a reason why we all feel like our brains, shoulders and head have turned to mush by the time 5 o’clock comes around.
With a few simple tweaks, you can be on your way to incorporating more movement throughout your workday, without compromising productivity, and feeling better at the end of a day.
Give these three tricks a try:
- Get up and walk around. Every 30 minutes, you should get up and walk around for at least three minutes. If you’re walking to the snack bar, well, that’s on you.
- Try some calf stretches Tired of achy legs? Try some calf stretches to get your blood circulating again.
- Give your eyes a break That end-of-day headache is most likely from staring at a screen all day. You should at least look away from your computer every five minutes (it’s not impossible, we promise).
Don’t let the workday get in the way of your wellness. Incorporating activity into your workday will help you feel better — and who knows, maybe even work better.
