“Well, a-beat the drum and hold the phone
The sun came out today
We’re born again, there’s new grass on the field
A-roundin’ third and headed for home
It’s a brown-eyed handsome man
Anyone can understand the way I feel
Oh, put me in coach, I’m ready to play today
Put me in coach, I’m ready to play today
Look at me, I can be centerfield.”
Centerfield – John Fogerty
John Fogerty’s classic song “Centerfield” certainly captures the joy of the return of baseball in the spring. Here in Southern California, the transition from winter isn’t as drastic as it is for those who live in the northern parts of the country. But no matter where people live, spring is a beautiful time of the year, and it’s a time of new beginnings.
Flowers are blooming and sharing their fragrances. Lawns are growing thicker and greener, thanks this year in part to our much needed rains. Followers of the Christian, Jewish and Islamic faiths will celebrate important holidays, with messages of hope and renewal. And to the delight of millions of baseball fans, spring means the beginning of another year of baseball. For millions in Southern California, that’s Dodger baseball!
Once again this year, Forest Lawn will be a proud sponsor of Dodger baseball. Like Forest Lawn, the Dodgers are an LA institution that is woven into the fabric of the community.
Our message of “Caring service is our reason for being” has long resonated with Southern California families. In fact, several members of the Dodgers have turned to Forest Lawn in their time of need. In years past, memorial services for legendary Dodgers Don Drysdale and John Roseboro brought the Dodger family together to honor the lives of two of the greatest ever to wear the Blue.
This year, we hope you get the chance to take in a game or two at iconic Dodger Stadium. Several baseball prognosticators are predicting big things for the Dodgers again this year. You’ll see some great baseball, and hopefully, another World Series here in Los Angeles–with a different result than last year!
