Elisabeth Kubler-Ross was a renowned 20th century psychiatrist who pioneered the study of grief.  Her groundbreaking book, On Death and Dying, was based on her years of research and work and introduced the well-known five stages of grief that are widely used today to help people cope with the loss of a loved one.

Of the many notable quotes from her writings, one stands out poignantly:

«The reality is that you will grieve forever. You will not ‘get over’ the loss of a loved one; you will learn to live with it. You will heal and you will rebuild yourself around the loss you have suffered. You will be whole again, but you will never be the same. Nor should you be the same nor would you want to.»
