Every government agency from the White House and the CDC, to the State of California and the Los Angeles County of Department of Health is recommending social distancing to help stem the rise in the cases of COVID-19, or more commonly called coronavirus.

Restaurants are closed to dining in. Sports have been cancelled. Theaters, movie houses, amusement parks, and more are all shut down. Churches are no longer meeting in person but instead by streaming online.

We humans are by nature are social beings. To maintain social distancing goes against our grain. We were born for community. Over time, this separation may create some anxiety, loneliness, or maybe even depression.

Social distancing doesn’t mean we just have to sit in our homes. There are many activities we can do to help keep our minds, bodies, and spirits fresh and uplifted during these unprecedented times.

Some things to consider doing:

  1. Go on a hike
  2. Order a meal take out or delivery
  3. Stream a show or movie with a friend
  4. Family game night
  5. Go for a drive
  6. Video/phone chatting with friends and loved ones
  7. Exercise at home
  8. Online shopping
  9. Taking your dog for a walk
  10. Read a book
  11. Write a book (for aspiring authors)
