Since we each began to talk and socialize with one another, we’ve undoubtedly made our fair share of promises and have had promises made to us. Merriam-Webster defines a promise as “a declaration that one will do or refrain from doing something specified” and a “reason to expect something, especially for the expectation of success, improvement, or excellence.”

So, what happens when a promise is broken? It usually causes hurt and pain for the person who was on the receiving end, yet never had that promise fulfilled. Broken promises can erode trust and can cause irreparable damage to a relationship. This goes for all relationships: parents to children, children to parents, spouse to spouse, friend to friend, and business to customer.
