Life is precious, wonderful and glorious. It has within it endless opportunities for joy and happiness. The birth of our children. Weddings and birthday celebrations. Victories in sports. Achievements in school. Promotions at work. The beauty of nature. Sunrises and sunsets. And on and on.
But life is often unpredictable and uncertain. Things happen often without warning that can be life altering and sometimes devastating. Natural disasters occur. Loss of employment. Sudden illnesses. Political upheaval. Relationship changes. This list is also endless.
Two famous authors have boiled down the certainty of life into two basic categories. The first was Daniel Defoe, in The Political History of the Devil, 1726 when he wrote: “Things as certain as death and taxes, can be more firmly believed.” His sentiments were echoed by Benjamin Franklin who used the more familiar phrase in a letter to Jean-Baptiste Leroy in 1789 which simply stated: ‘In this world nothing can be said to be certain, except death and taxes.”
There is a lot of truth to what both Defoe and Franklin wrote. With that in mind, it only makes sense to pay attention to what is certain and to prepare for it. Good financial planning and saving for taxes and the future is something everyone should do. Likewise, taking care of funeral and memorial service plans in advance is not only prudent, but can save you and your loved ones time and money in the long run.
We encourage everyone to look into financial planning for not only tax season, but for life in general. We also encourage everyone to make their funerals and memorial choices in advance. We can help with the latter. Call us at 1-800-204-3131 for a no cost consultation.
